ABOUT US
Galleria Nobili deals with ancient Japanese art with a specific focus on screen painting; collaborates with Japanese and Italian contemporary artists in order to promote their specific identity through solo and group exhibitions. The skills developed over the years have resulted in the implementation of projects in collaboration with public and private entities. We are active in the field of cultural promotion in the area through the organization of in-depth courses and workshops on some aspects of traditional Japanese artistic culture.
ANTIQUES
Galleria Nobili has been operating for years in the Antiques sector in the painting of the great masters of the Italian seventeenth century. Since 2005, the new generation of children has implemented the field of action with Japanese painting on paper or silk such as ancient screens (byōbu 屏風) and scrolls (kakemono 掛 物), circumscribing a time span that goes from the Edo period (1615-1868) al Taishō (1912-1926). Selected and aimed at conscious and growing collectors, screens of different sizes and eras are available in the catalog, suitable for different living contexts. We offer assistance in the selection of artistic artefacts, evaluation of works in private collections and assistance in restoration.
COLLABORATIONS
With institutions, foundations, cultural associations, private spaces and with the world of furniture and design. The Gallery has had the opportunity to assist in the organization of exhibitions, in the promotion of artists and workshops. He has also collaborated with well-known brands in the choice of works suitable for different contexts including photographic sets for fashion, interior design and trade fairs.
FAIRS
From the need to extend its audience outside Milan and find interest in different territories, Galleria Nobili participates in sector fairs both in the antiques sector such as: BIAF, ANTIQUARI MILANESI, IFA, GOTHA, and contemporary . For each edition, a specific project is studied to propose and enhance specific aspects of Japanese painting.
TEMPORARY STORE
The exhibition spaces of the Gallery are made available for major events that take place periodically in Milan such as the Fashion Week and the Fuorisalone during the Design Week.
CONTEMPORARY ART
Since 2007 the Galleria Nobili, assisted by the critic Matteo Galbiati, has focused on the selection and promotion of contemporary Japanese artists who live in Italy and between Japan and Europe. Trying to establish a coherent line between the world of antiquity and the most current languages, the research of Japanese Screens focuses, in addition to antiquity, on the study and promotion of those aesthetic and philosophical values rooted in the artistic and artisan tradition of Japan, able to cross borders while maintaining their strong identity. Over time, the chorus of voices expands to include some Italian artists who, for sensitivity, personal insight and shared values, carry out a rigorous similar research.
EXHIBITIONS
The Galleria Nobili promotes its activity through the conception and curation of personal and collective exhibitions in the spaces of the Gallery located in Brera or in different contexts such as historic buildings, foundations and museums. Particular attention is paid to the study of the installations and to the construction of a visual relationship between the work and the space, in order to create an immersive itinerary and prepare the viewer for the artistic experience. By way of example, with the artistic direction of Matteo Galbiati and promoted by the Cominelli Foundation and the Cultural Association Liberamente, it participates in the project for the traveling exhibition Eterne Stagioni held first at the Vittoriale degli Italiani in Gardone Riviera and then later at Palazzo Monferrato in Alessandria.
WORKSHOPS AND COURSES
In order to bring an ever wider audience closer to this world, with artists and teachers who collaborate with the Gallery, we regularly promote the organization of workshops and courses on traditional techniques, craftsmanship and Japanese aesthetics through cycles of theoretical lessons. and practices. Some examples: Federica de Luca (painting, research on the aesthetics of emptiness and synaesthesia), Kazuko Hiraoka (traditional shodō 書 道), Asako Hishiki (mokuhanga 木 版画, watoji 和 綴 じ, shibori itajime 板 締 め 絞 り on paper), Hiro Ideshita (shodō contemporary 書 道), Lucia Lapone (shibori itajime 板 締 め 絞 り on fabric), Rossella Marangoni (Nipponist teaches Japanese history, literature, aesthetics), Shoko Okumura (nihonga 日本 画), Kanaco Takahashi (design of objects for everyday use, pencil drawing ), Mariangela Zabatino (contemporary kintsugi 金 継 ぎ and ceramic) and many others.
